Prof. Dr. Lochan Karki is one of Nepal's foremost physicians, serving as Rector and Professor of Internal Medicine at the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), Bir Hospital, Kathmandu — the country's oldest and most prestigious postgraduate medical institution. He was appointed Rector on 22 June 2023 and promoted to full Professor on 20 July 2023.
Conferred the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP) on 9 February 2024, he also holds the Fellowship of the American College of Physicians (FACP, USA) and serves as Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He is a trained Aviation Medical Examiner authorised by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).
He served as President of the Nepal Medical Association (2019–2023) across four consecutive terms — during which he championed the Healthcare Worker Safety Ordinance, spearheaded COVID-19 training for nearly 12,000 medical and paramedical staff, and established a telemedicine Call Centre at NMA. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Nepal Medical Association (JNMA).
