"The primary purpose of NAMS is to be an 'Expanded NAMS' — extending quality medical education to all provinces of Nepal."
Prof. Dr. Lochan Karki is one of Nepal's most respected physicians — a clinician, educator, policy reformer, and community leader with over two decades of service to the nation's healthcare. Holding fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (FRCP) and the American College of Physicians (FACP), he brings both international standing and deep local commitment to his work. As Past President of the Nepal Medical Association (2019–2023), he championed the rights and safety of medical professionals, leading the passage of the landmark Healthcare Worker Safety Ordinance — the first law in Nepal's history to give legal protection to doctors and healthcare staff. He also guided Nepal's medical community through the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing the training of over 12,000 healthcare workers nationwide. A TEDxSanepa speaker, journal editor, and aviation medical examiner, Dr. Karki believes that quality healthcare must reach every Nepali — from the hospital ward to the most remote hillside.
